About R.A.T.

I created this page because when I wanted to do some astrometry, I only knew a couple of options: Astrometry.net and Astrobin.

Both platforms are amazing for professional use, with huge databases and highly skilled developers behind them. However, Astrometry.net doesn't allow me to customize things like font size or colors (only green), and Astrobin, while offering a really complete astrometry, restricts full features to paid users — plus you need accounts on both.

One of my hobbies, besides astrophotography, is programming (which I also studied). So, as a personal project and practice, I decided to build a simple platform where I could run astrometry on my images using the installable engine from Astrometry.net on Linux — no user accounts, no mandatory tags or descriptions. Just upload, process, and get the annotated image, ready to share or save.

Just to be clear: this site isn't aimed at professional astronomy. It's simply meant to generate a basic astrometry overlay that you can easily share on social media or download for your own collection.
